Contents: "[In his letter to Mason of 5 Oct. 1766 (Letter 427 [letters.0483]) Gray refers to a letter which he wrote to Stonhewer on receiving from him the news of Dr. John Brown's suicide. As Gray heard from Stonhewer on 23 Sept., Gray's letter must have been written about 23 Sept. Both letters are missing, as well as others mentioned in the same letter to Mason. Stonhewer had written a second letter on 27 Sept. Gray had also received a letter from Walpole in reply to his letter of 24 Sept. (Letter 426 [letters.0481]).]"
